Why contribute?

Join the community and multiply the impact of your work.

GRAND Explorer is an open, harmonized repository for agricultural N2O flux data. At launch, our dataset already contained ~100 published datasets, but the field is constantly growing with new research, from new locations, investigating novel angles of soil N2O production to fill in the gaps that remain. Our community helps us stay current with the latest research, and growing to meet the needs for novel synthesis. Every dataset you add is one more piece pulled into a single, clean, searchable hub that the whole community can benefit from.

What you get

Amplified Reach

Your data becomes discoverable and reusable alongside work from labs worldwide, extending the life of the effort you already invested. Every datapoint downloaded from GRAND Explorer is tagged with its source publication, and requires citation for use under CC-BY Licensing.

Better Models

Improved flux models, and particularly cutting-edge machine learning models that hold the potential to detangle the complex web of covariate interactions governing nitrogen processes, require large-scale, high quality datasets. GRAND Explorer does the boring part for you by cleaning and harmonizing datasets from around the world. More community contributions means we all benefit.

An Assisted Upload

Our smart contributor workbench is designed to make the tedious work of harmonizing your unique data into our schema easy. You dont have to have a perfectly formatted dataset to contribute — just bring what you have, and let the assistant do the rest. We'll even pull key information from your manuscript PDF to pre-fill site, soil, and management details for you.

Climb the Leaderboard

Contributors are credited and ranked on our leaderboard, so your generosity is visible to the community. Climb the ranks to take the lead in one of multiple categories and be recognized for your contributions!

How it works

  1. Upload your data. Drop in a CSV or Excel file of measurements and, optionally, the paper it came from.
  2. Review the pre-fill. We read your file and paper to suggest columns, site details, and management; you confirm or adjust.
  3. Submit for curation. A curator checks it over, and once approved it's published into the live database — credited to you!
